The company officer plays a critical role in today's fire service, providing key leadership and direction for today's firefighters. During this session, students will examine the roles of the company officer from leading in the fire house to managing the fire ground. Keys of the course include leadership styles and how leadership is not a one-size fits all, communications and the need to communicate to build strong relationships, the art of discipline when and how to use this tool to effect desired change. Students will engage in typical and atypical real world scenarios that company officers have faced from various fire organizations across the country as well as take a self-analysis of their leadership skills. In the end, students will leave with enhance skills to improve their leadership function when they return to their fire station.
